Can an au pair care for family pets?

Au pairs should not be seen as the solution for ongoing pet care. As contributing family members, some au pairs might volunteer to help out with the caring for pets, but this cannot be expected on a regular basis or seen as part of their official responsibilities. Families cannot include pet care in the au pair’s work schedule or expect it during their free time. We recommend that families and au pairs have a conversation about their family pets before the au pair arrives.
