What does 'two weeks of vacation time' mean?
Your au pair is entitled to two weeks of paid time off during their participation in the program. It is the responsibility of the host family and the au pair to reach an agreement as to the accrual and usage of this two weeks of time off. In working with the host family and au pair to resolve any misunderstandings concerning the au pair’s use of time off under the Program Regulations, Au Pair USA will first work to understand what the host family and au pair had agreed with regard to accrual and usage of time off. If we are unable to do so, we will presume that, following the first 30 days of the placement, the au pair begins to accrue one paid day of time off per month for a total of eleven days, which equals two weeks of paid time off, by the conclusion of the standard 52-week program term.
While the au pair’s use of these days is subject to the host family’s approval, you should make reasonable efforts to accommodate these requests. It is best to start discussing possible vacation periods early in the year so your au pair can make appropriate plans. All vacation days must be taken during the program year and families cannot pay their au pair extra for forgoing vacation time or expect the au pair to take the time off after the final work day of their program year.
