Do au pairs get holidays off?

In the United States, au pairs are not legally entitled to have public holidays off, but many host families choose to give time off on major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and the Fourth of July. These days are not guaranteed, so whether an au pair has a holiday off depends entirely on the host family’s preferences and childcare needs. It’s common for families to either give the full day off, reduce the hours, or offer compensatory time off if the au pair is needed to work. This should be discussed and agreed upon in advance to avoid misunderstandings.
